Tradições de Natal de Portugal (Daniel G)

Olá, caros colegas [Dear friends],

Vou-vos falar de algumas tradições de natal de Portugal. O Natal é a festa onde estamos reunidos com a família para festejar o nascimento de Jesus Cristo.
[Today I’ll tell you about some Christmas traditions of Portugal . Christmas is the season when we gather in family to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.]

Daniel e Beatriz

No início de dezembro fazemos a árvore de natal e o presépio. Tudo fica enfeitado e cheio de luz.
[In early December we decorate our Christmas tree and set up the nativity scene. Everywhere is full of light and decoration.]

Na véspera de natal (dia 24 de dezembro) juntamo-nos com a nossa família e comemos bacalhau com batatas e couves. Também comemos filhós e  outros doces de natal. Cantamos músicas de natal,  conversamos e brincamos muito.  
[On Christmas Eve ( December 24th ) we join our family and eat cod with potatoes and cabbages . Also eat lots of Christmas sweets. We sing Christmas songs, talk and play a lot.]

Nas aldeias há uma grande fogueira (Madeiro) à porta da igreja, para as pessoas se aquecerem quando vão à missa do galo (missa da meia noite de natal).
[In the villages there is a large fire in front of the church  for people to warm up when they go to midnight mass (missa do galo)]

Antigamente, antes de irem para a cama, as crianças deixavam um sapatinho na lareira, para o menino Jesus deixar uma prenda. Mas hoje também já aparece o Pai Natal em muitas casas.
[Formely , before going to bed , children left a shoe on the fireplace, so that baby Jesus would leave a gift. But nowadays we also have Santa Claus that brings the presents from the north.]

Com o menino Jesus, ou com o Pai Natal, o que interessa é que estamos todos juntos e felizes. Gostava que todos os meninos tivessem um Feliz Natal!
[With the baby Jesus, or Santa Claus , what matters is that we are all together and happy. I wish all the children had a Merry Christmas!]
